The production area is located in the extreme southeast corner of the province of Albacete and the north of Murcia. The main grape grown here is Monastrell, due to its extreme climate and terrain, since this grape variety is the one which has best adapted to the hot and very dry conditions.

This region is characterised by wide valleys and plains crossed by mountains of between 400 and 800 metres in altitude, forming the border between the Mediterranean coast and the plateau of Castilla-La Mancha.
